Members' FAQs
Our Members' FAQs aim to answer some of your most common questions, to help you get the most from your membership.
Yes – Full Medical Underwriting (FMU) means the scheme does not pay for conditions that you already had when you joined, unless adequately declared to and accepted by us. You are also not eligible for benefit under your Scheme for any conditions, whether diagnosed or not, if these arise in the first 14 days after you joined us.
Full Medical Underwriting is one of the main reasons we are able keep the cost of the Silver plan lower than Gold.
No claims for treatments etc. or any cash plan items such as dental or optical can be made during the 12 month waiting period, and you cannot submit claims for treatment during the waiting period after it has elapsed – we go by the treatment date, not the date of claiming. The only benefit available during the 12 month waiting period is Dr On-Call – you may have a virtual GP appointment during the waiting period but any ongoing treatment they refer you for must take place after the end of the waiting period.
No, the 12 month waiting period must be observed when signing up to the Gold Plan.
If flexing up to Gold from the Edge plan the full 12 month waiting period applies. Likewise, when flexing from Silver to Gold, the 12 month waiting period applies.
No, the waiting period applies separately to each period of membership. In exceptional circumstances where a member has to leave the scheme due to a major life event e.g. loss of job, then they may be allowed to re-join within 6 months of leaving without a further waiting period.
No, under the rules of the scheme when a family member gets married then they must take out their own registration.
Not necessarily – if the family member is your only, or last child on your subscription then your registration will change to a Couple registration which will result in a reduction in your monthly subscription. However, if you still have other children remaining on your Family registration then there will be no change to your monthly payments.
No, your plan will continue uninterrupted providing there is no break in payments.
Whilst members can cancel their payments at any time we do ask, out of fairness to other members, that you make a commitment to scheme membership, particularly the low cost Edge plan where we expect members to commit to at least a year’s membership.
Yes, if they are not a member of your household then you cannot include them on your registration, but you can certainly cover the cost of their registration.
Unmarried children can stay on your family registration until the first renewal after they reach age 25. After this they will need their own single registration, and we will write to them to advise this.
The minimum age is 16 – any younger than this and they must be included as part of a Family or Single Parent Family registration.
Yes, so long as both parents are on the family registration. This can be done by calling HealthHero on 0345 222 3701 – it is not currently possible via the online portal or app.
No, it is only possible to have one registration running at any time.
For full details please refer to your Scheme Handbook but, broadly speaking, it is any condition that continues indefinitely, and for which there is no known cure. These conditions will usually need long-term monitoring and treatment. If in doubt then you can call the medical Helpdesk on 03000 707070 Option 1 for advice about your specific condition.
